IP Scan: the best way to set up your IP strategy

The SME Fund provides a grant of 90 %.

If you are a business with up to 250 employees and an annual turnover of less than EUR 50 million, or if you are a start-up with an idea or product you would like to protect, you can apply for a grant.

The service has a fixed amount and costs EUR 900 + VAT, with the SME Fund providing a grant of EUR 810 to perform the IP Scan. And it's worth it!

Getting a grant for IP Scan is easy with us

The procedure for obtaining a grant is simple. There are two routes to take. You can either apply for the grant yourself, or you can make it as simple as possible and we will prepare the grant application. Whichever option you choose, you will need to prepare some basic documents. What are they?

1. Bank account information along with a bank statement ↗.
2. VAT registration ↗ certificate, or other certificate showing your registration in the commercial register and your company identification number.
3. If you would like us to submit the application for you, you will need to fill in the model affidavit ↗.

Afterwards, you will create an account on the SME Fund website ↗ (or we will create one for you) and all the above documents will be attached to the voucher application.

The EUIPO will examine the submitted documents and inform you within 15 days whether the application has been approved or not (requesting further supporting documents).

Once you have received the grant, you (or us) will contact the Industrial Property Office (IPO) who will assign a certified expert to perform the IP Scan, bill you for the total amount and then reimburse you from the SME Fund.

How does IP Scan work?

As described above, the IP Scan is performed by a certified IP expert. We are certified to provide the IP Scan service.

Once the IPO assigns you a certified IP expert, the procedure is as follows:

• First, an NDA is signed (this is a given, it's your know-how).
• You will fill out a basic questionnaire in which you describe in your own words what you do, what your products are and how you currently deal with IP protection. Don't worry though, filling in the questionnaire is quite intuitive and you just tick the check-boxes.
• The IP expert will then interview you (which can take up to 2 hours) to identify all areas to determine the correct IP business strategy.
• The expert prepares the analysis and prepares a final report, which is sent to the Industrial Property Office for quality control.

What will you learn in the report?

The report will provide a comprehensive summary of what areas of intellectual property concern you, including the risks involved. It will also recommend your ideal strategy for moving forward with IP protection and where to focus your efforts.

The report will give you confidence. It will help you to create an overview of the next steps you need to take to ensure that your intellectual property is as protected as possible. This will provide you with a strategy on how to proceed.
